Island or city?
Greece has it all: outstanding year-round weather, affordable accommodation, superb food, friendly locals, and amazing history .
Every corner of this country ooze chilled-out livability and the list of must-see places goes on and on: Athens, Crete, Delphi, Olympia, Santorini, Skiathos, Meteora, Rhodes, and Corfu are just the tip of the iceberg.
Greece is one of the safest countries in Europe, and has an easy-going, relaxed feel. You will feel safe while wandering all over Athens, day or night. Basic precautions with regard to personal belongings will prevent cases of petty theft. In entertainment districts late at night, inebriated foreign tourists are likely to pose more of a danger than anything else.
Many expats flock to Athens, thanks to its great location and proximity to both the islands and to other European countries. Athens is where you’ll find world-class museums, ancient historical sites, extensive night life and amazing, top cultural events. Athens, Thessaloniki, Patras, Kalamata, Larissa is where the best healthcare can be found, so if that is on the top of your list of must-haves, you might want to check out those cities over some of the more rural areas, but
If you want to live on an island in Greece
You get off the ferry with the rest of the tourists and you ..… you are "home"! In a place that is magical, where the sun shines every day and the sea has a color you have only seen on Indian jewelry. The nights are spent at restaurants and bars, where all the tables are outdoors overlooking the sea and the conversation flows like water from one of the mountain springs you drank from on your trek through the hills.
Certainly, if there is a paradise on earth, Greece and the Greek islands are it. If you want to give up the chaos of big city life to live here you will be eternally happy.

Islands cost of living, for example, might be a little high for utilities and groceries (at an island, this is to be expected), but a one-bedroom apartment in their main cities (Chora) centers rents for only 320€-400€ per month (depending on season and island chosen by you). Prices in Larger islands like Crete, Rhodes, and Corfu etc. are very similar. To live in Kalamata or Nauplion, on the Peloponnese Peninsula, prices are much cheaper, with a one-bedroom apartment in the city center costing less than $300/month to rent.
