Greek Orthodox Easter 02 May 2021

If you have any Greek people in your social circle, you may have realized that Easter is the biggest holiday of the year for them.

Clean Monday (Καθαρη Δευτερα) 15 March 2021

“Kathari Deftera,” Greek for Clean Monday, is considered to be one of the most important feasts all over Greece, each year commencing the 40-day period of the Great Lent for the Eastern Greek Orthodox Church, which is called “Sarakosti.” The feast begins on the first day of the 7th week before the Orthodox Easter Sunday.

August 15th

August 15 or Dekapentavgoustos is one of the most important dates in the Greek Orthodox Calendar, as the Feast of the Dormition of the Theotokos is celebrated. It is a national and religious holiday that marks the “falling asleep” repose or kimisis of Panagia, mother of Lord Jesus Christ. The Feast also commemorates the Assumption of the body of the Theotokos into heaven.
